Ann Arbor, MI – McKinley CEO Albert M. Berriz and Kate Durak, Executive Director of JDRF’s Metro Detroit and Southeast Michigan Chapter to cure diabetes jointly announced today that McKinley will be the Presenting Sponsor for 2014 Ann Arbor JDRF Walk. In addition to the financial commitment, Berriz volunteered to be the 2014 Ann Arbor Walk Corporate Fundraising Chair. The announcement includes an additional commitment by Berriz that Meredith Mitchell, McKinley's Corporate Wellness Director, will lead walk teams at JDRF walk events in the various McKinley communities throughout its nationwide real estate platform.
"We have a long term relationship with JDRF and we are excited to expand our partnership with Kate and her marvelous team. At McKinley, we are committed to having a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D). Many of our McKinley family members and their loved ones battle T1D every day, and we are here to say that we are committed to be a part of the solution that is turning TYPE ONE INTO TYPE NONE," stated Berriz.

The Ann Arbor/Dexter Walk to Cure Diabetes is a 5k fun Walk that will take place along the beautiful trails of Hudson Mills Metro Park at 8:30 a.m. on September 28, 2014. In addition to corporate sponsorships, considerable funds are raised through individual and team walkers obtaining donations from family, friends and co-workers. In 2013, the Ann Arbor event welcomed over 2,500 people and raised over $700,000 to prevent, treat, and cure type 1 diabetes (T1D). This year’s fundraising goal has been set at $750,000. McKinley launched the 2014 Ann Arbor Walk effort with a $25,000 corporate gift and a commitment to organize a huge walk team. ANN ARBOR, MI – McKinley Institutional Commercial Real Estate (ICRE) is pleased to announce the successful disposition of a portion of the State Street Executive Park located in Ann Arbor, MI on behalf of its valued clients. McKinley ICRE began management of this two building asset totaling 21,667 square foot in May 2012 and during its time managing the property a lease was executed for the entire 5230 building to Progenity, a genetic testing lab. After a positive experience Progenity decided to purchase the building producing an excellent result for McKinley’s client. McKinley will continue to manage the other 5200 building.

Tarentum, PA – McKinley Institutional Commercial Real Estate announces that the District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, has appointed McKinley as the Receiver for the Shoppes at Pittsburgh Mills, in Tarentum, Pennsylvania. This 9,907 square foot shopping center includes such tenants as Mattress Discounters, Great Clips and Sweet Frog Frozen Yogurt.

The morning began with a delicious breakfast buffet at the Dahlmann Campus Inn in downtown Ann Arbor. Attendees got a chance to network and learn more about the Fair Housing Center. John Relman then spoke to us about "Lasting Effects: The Next Generation of Fair Housing Enforcement.” His talk covered topics such as redlining, reverse redlining, and the impact that leaders in the real estate and lending industries can make in working to end housing discrimination.
We hope the event expanded the conversation about fair housing.

Ann Arbor, MI – In celebration of Heart Month McKinley teamed up with the American Heart Association by joining a year-long campaign to fight cardiovascular disease and stroke by raising money and awareness in Washtenaw County by going “RED”. In addition, McKinley's Wellness Director, Meredith Mitchell motivated team members with contests and awareness messages for a month long "cardio challenge" to improve heart health.
Nearly 34 percent of Washtenaw County residents are affected by heart disease or stroke. To help raise awareness McKinley has raised money by running company-wide fundraisers and turned its Ann Arbor corporate office “Red” for the month of February. In addition to turning the façade of its corporate office red with lighting and banners, McKinley Team Members are also participating in the Super Hero Themed Washtenaw County Heart Walk/5K Run in May.
"We are pleased to support the American Heart Association by raising both awareness and funds for the "Go RED" campaign,” stated Albert M. Berriz, McKinley's Chief Executive Officer. “Everyone enthusiastically responded to Meredith's cardio challenge, and we remain committed to our team members overall health and wellness under her leadership and direction," shared Berriz.

ORLANDO, FL - McKinley Institutional Commercial Real Estate (ICRE) was appointed receiver of Baldwin Park, a 182,464 square feet retail and office asset located near Winter Park, FL in March of 2012. During McKinley’s tenure as Receiver, the property was successfully repositioned and subsequently sold. At the time of disposition, McKinley ICRE was retained by the new owner as Property Manager.
Baldwin Park is a unique mixed use development. Under McKinley ICRE management, the team was able to collect significant delinquencies in rent, cure major deferred maintenance and ensure that the buildings operate effectively following a construction defect lawsuit. In addition, the condominium association was activated, new leases were negotiated and executed, expenses were reduced and the overall appearance and functionality of the property was improved.
“This was a particularly complex workout, stated Clay Thomas, Vice President of McKinley’s Institutional Commercial Real Estate group. Our team, through its experience and expertise was able to successfully reposition the asset for sale. In addition, we are very pleased to continue managing the asset on behalf of the new owner,” shared Thomas.
